Pressure & Temperature Resistant – Designed to withstand high operating pressures and temperatures common in hygienic processing
The SMS-15 Welding Male functions as a transition component within an SMS sanitary piping system:
Welding Connection – The weld end of the fitting is welded to the end of a stainless steel pipe or tubing using orbital or manual TIG welding, creating a permanent, homogenous, crevice-free joint
Male Configuration – The opposite end features the SMS-standard male profile (threaded or smooth sealing face) designed to receive the SMS union nut
Union Assembly – An SMS union nut and sanitary gasket are placed over the male end and tightened onto a mating SMS component (such as an SMS welding female or SMS elbow)
Gasket Compression – Tightening the union nut compresses the gasket against the sealing faces, creating a leak-proof, hygienic seal
System Integration – Once assembled, the welding male allows the welded pipe section to be easily connected, disconnected, or maintained via the SMS union connection on the other side
This design combines the permanence of welding (for pipe runs) with the flexibility of union connections (for equipment, valves, and instruments).
Certified Quality – All our SMS-15 Welding Male fittings are 3A Sanitary Standards certified, meeting the highest industry requirements for dairy and food processing equipment. We also hold CE certification and ISO 9001 quality management system certification, ensuring consistent product excellence

Q: What does "SMS-15" mean?
A: "SMS" stands for Swedish Milk Standard (Svensk Mjölkstandard), the widely recognized sanitary fitting standard used globally in dairy and food processing. SMS-15 typically designates the standard size series or dimensional reference within the SMS 1145 specification. Please verify your specific size requirement (e.g., DN 25, DN 40, DN 50) when ordering.
Q: What materials are available?
A: Our SMS Welding Male fittings are available in 304 stainless steel and 316L stainless steel. 316L offers enhanced corrosion resistance and is recommended for pharmaceutical, biotech, and high-purity applications.
Q: What certifications do your products have?
A: Our fittings are 3A Sanitary Standards certified, CE certified, and manufactured under an ISO 9001 certified quality management system. Material test reports (EN 10204 3.1) are supplied with every order.
Q: What industries use this fitting?
A: The SMS-15 Welding Male is widely used in dairy processing, food and beverage production, pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology, cosmetics, and chemical processing industries.
Q: What sizes are available?
A: We offer SMS sizes ranging from DN 25 to DN 100 (and larger upon request), including DN 25, DN 32, DN 40, DN 50, DN 65, DN 80, and DN 100.
Q: Is this fitting suitable for orbital welding?
A: Yes. The weld end is specifically designed for automatic orbital TIG welding as well as manual TIG welding, ensuring a consistent, high-quality, and hygienic weld.
Q: What is the difference between a welding male and a welding female?
A: A welding male has an external profile that accepts the SMS union nut, while a welding female has an internal profile that receives the male end. The SMS-15 Welding Male is used to connect welded pipe to the union nut assembly.
Q: Can this fitting be used in CIP/SIP systems?
A: Absolutely. The crevice-free welded joint and smooth surface finish fully support Clean-In-Place (CIP) and Sterilize-In-Place (SIP) cleaning and sterilization procedures.
Q: What surface finish is standard?
A: Our standard surface finish is Ra ≤ 0.8 μm (electropolished) to meet 3A and dairy industry hygienic requirements. Special finishes (e.g., Ra ≤ 0.4 μm) are available upon request.
